ALL ABOUT U.S. BUSINESS CARD COMPANY

Printing the old fashioned way! Not slick, but fancy! Specializing in all kinds of card printing (business cards, invitations, announcements, post cards, note cards) featuring business cards of the unusual kind, using the same printing method since the invention of moveable type in the 15th century. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. It works like this: rubber rollers apply ink onto the metal type which is in the press. The moving platen then presses the paper against the inked metal type. Voila! A finished piece. I can print 100 cards in 10 minutes this way. You call this LETTERPRESS - like what some of you learned in junior high school print shop before it was phased out of the curriculum.

I now print with photopolymer plates in addition to the metal type. Simply email me camera ready design with any type and design under the sun. With photopolymer plates, you're not limited to the metal that I have available and the result is totally without flaw. I can accept Adobe Illustrator (vector art is best), Photoshop, TIFF, PDF and Microsoft Word files. Resolution should be no less than 600 DPI.

FAQ

Q. Ok, big deal. So this is printing the old fashioned way. Who cares? I just want results. I can go down to my local commercial print shop and get nicely designed cards for much less than what you would charge me. You know, quicker better cheaper.

A. Quicker, better, cheaper you say? That is if you like having a standard formatted design from a book of designs shoved down your throat. But, when you have a personalized custom design by them, then your quick and cheap print shop isn't so quick or cheap anymore. With me, you have power over exactly how you want your card designed at no extra cost. With the number of typefaces I have and the numerous dingbats and ornaments you can create a very unique design. Believe it or not, the average person has a good sense of design. It's amazing what you can do when you aren't tied down to a pre-made format, and how little time it actually takes.

Q. Alright already, but I know where I can get 1,000 business cards printed for as little as $25.

A. Be my guest. How long do you have to wait for them? Most commercial printers don't care about business cards, because they're not such money makers for them. They use them as loss leaders. And the quality ain't so hot. My customers, mostly highly creative people who are their own bosses, know the difference. They appreciate the lack of "high tech flashiness" that you see in those cards intended for the rat race. They like the slightly off-beat designs on somewhat off-beat and premium papers. And they most especially like that somewhat sunken in feeling on the front surface of the card and even, when requested, the almost "punched through" effect on the reverse side.

Q. Well, ain't that just peachy Mr. Bigshot Letterpress Man. Bet your machine can't measure up to my state of the art laser jet printer. What have you got?

A. High resolution 100% of the time. There's no doubt that the all metal foundry type provides, unquestionably, high resolution printing each and every time, because of the hard, flat and smooth surface of the metal type, large type or small. No pixels or dpi. Plus, these old dinosaur presses that I have, Golding Pearl, Vandercook SP15, C&P 8X12, and C&P Pilot have few moving parts and so hardly ever break down and will print on virtually any difficult to print papers, a real advantage over that home desktop printer, which only takes that thin, laser friendly stuff. I can print on deckled edged papers, very coarse papers, extra thick chipboard, real wood and even from discarded breakfast cereal boxes cut down to business cards. No commercial printer will print on this stuff.
